NMWE:
How did you become a part of this industry?
Heidi:
I started in the floral industry over 20 years ago and have worked just about every angle of the business but decided about 10 years ago that creating and designing weddings was my favorite aspect of the industry. I am lucky to be able to bring couples visions and designs to life for one of the most important days that they will celebrate!
NMWE:
What sets you apart? What is your most valued feature about your business?
Heidi:
I think the thing that sets us apart is our experience, I have been doing weddings for over 15 years, so I’ve seen all the trends and what works and what doesn’t. I also think that every couple is unique so I strive to make every couples day different form anyone else’s wedding, which can be challenging, but I think it helps set us apart from other florists. I also love what I do so I think my enthusiasm helps a lot.

NMWE:
What keeps you passionate and motivated?
Heidi:
Trying to stay passionate & motivated is sometimes hard during wedding season, but it helps to have other vendors going through the same thing and be able to work as small teams to brainstorm ideas, whether thru networking groups or events as someone always brings something new and exciting to the group!
NMWE:
What are your desired types of couples?
Heidi:
All vendors wish for the magical couples that have an unlimited budget and trust you to make their day magical! But that rarely happens. I love it when my couples are prepared when they meet with me – ie. having a idea of budget, colors, venue design but are open to new ideas and willing to try new things.

NMWE:
Do you have a past favorite wedding? If yes, why is it your favorite?
Heidi:
I do have a favorite wedding even though I try to make all of my weddings unique and magical I do have a favorite and that would be Kat & Dave’s wedding at Hardy Farm. (No Nicole did not pay me to say this ;)) A few of the reasons it was one of my favorites is because it wasn’t at a traditional time of the year, it was in December, which means as florist I got to use play with flower choices and use more nontraditional colors and flowers (ie. deep chocolate orchids, deep rose colors) It was also educational for me as I stayed and worked with Nicole on set up and helped with the event throughout the night, I am usually long gone after the flowers get dropped off, so it was really cool to be able to work/see how all of the vendors work together and be behind the scenes and it gave me a greater understanding of the overall planning of the day/night. The other really amazing thing about the wedding was the venue was very intimate which gave us some time with the couple and their guests, which was so much fun and never once did I feel like “the help” and must say not only were Kat & Dave amazing all of their guests were just as amazing! Overall, I also think it helps if the couple is a bit laid back and trust their vendors and Kat & Dave were a perfect example of that!
NMWE:
What is your best piece of advice or tip for couples planning a wedding?
Heidi:
My best advice for couples planning their wedding is to remember it is THEIR day. Yes, you may have to accommodate some family suggestions/traditions, but to remember that it is about the love the couple shares and what brought them to this day. It can get very overwhelming very quickly and I try to remind them to breathe and reassure them that if you have great vendors you will have a beautiful and special day!
